Water Harvesting using Rain Barrels

12/08/08

Rain barrels are large containers used to collect rain water. Rain water is being increasingly stored for use in gardens flushes and other non potable usage. Collecting rain water before it drains away is the best and easiest method of water harvesting. Rain barrels are available commercially made of steel stainless steel plastic fiberglass and concrete. Some people make their own rain barrels out of earthen or stone pots or wood to synchronize with the exterior of their homes. Rain barrels with classic barrel styles using faux wood are available to help the home owner conserve rain water without compromising on the exterior beauty of the building. Most barrels for rainwater collection have a screened mesh on the mouth to filter the water and such filtered water is potable. The age old method of collection of rainwater through the use of rain barrels has survived through the ages and does not show signs of disappearing in the future.
